In the 1970s Mr. Floyd ‘Coot’ Huffman set aside part of his expansive timber tract
in the town of Hampstead to create a community that would feature beautiful homes and fantastic a golf club in the heart of Coastal North Carolina. Named “Olde Point”, the area was to be carved out of acres of dense forest and vast tidal marshland into a golf club with numerous adjoining home sites. Many families from across the country began to settle in the newly formed neighborhood and set up their homesteads among the stunning and quaint natural beauty. In 1973 construction on the golf course began and in 1975 course architect Jerry Turner’s gem opened to the playing public. It quickly became a favorite spot for tourists and locals alike.
